Holy Cross Church is one of two Episcopal churches between Pylesville, Maryland and York, Pennsylvania. On the Maryland side of the border, most of the congregation lives within the northern part of Harford County, none of which have incorporated communities.
There are three public schools within one mile of Holy Cross including the newly renovated North Harford High School. Harford County has a community college offering various Associate in Arts degrees including a very competitive nursing program. York County is the home of York College, and also has a large satellite branch of Penn State, offering diverse channels of advanced education. Cultural events are available at the county seats in both locations. Baltimore is 35 miles south, Washington, D.C. is 82 miles south and Philadelphia is 80 miles north. All offer a broad selection of cultural events, museums and entertainment.
Both geographical areas offer year round Public Recreation Programs in sports and crafts for a small fee. Despite their proximity to large cities, both jurisdictions manage to preserve small community activities such as Volunteer Fire Department Carnivals, Church Festivals, County Auctions, Community Parades, etc. which add much to their charm.
